Foodie: Oreo Truffles

irish food blog: oreo truffles

Only two more sleeps until Christmas! Are ye all ready for the big day? I am heading upstate tomorrow morning to spend it with family and I am sooooooo excited to have a few days out of the city to just chill and do absolutely nothing. It’s gonna be amazing! I love the city but sometimes it’s good to get away too. I am also gonna be a little spoilt over the next few days… I’ll be having a Christmas meal on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day (food baby alert). 🙂

For those of you still on the hunt for a Christmas dessert or even a quick sweet snack to make over the festive period, I have the just the thing for you. I really hadn’t planned on sharing another food post so soon after my Homemade Snickers Cheesecake recipe but while I was at the#itwbn Virtual Christmas Party last night I thought this Oreo Truffles recipe is so perfect for this time of the year. They are super easy to make, take no time at all and they are unbelievably delicious!! Like REALLY unbelievably delicious! They are the perfect sweet treat to make if you have people calling over the festive season (and in Ireland there are always so many visitors over Christmas). I wish I had a better picture of these beauties but unfortunately this one is the best I have. Anyway here’s the recipe. If you try them out be sure to let me know. 🙂

Ingredients:
26 Oreo biscuits (2 single packs)
1 200g tub of Philadelphia
1 teaspoon of Vanilla Essence/Extract
12 squares of dark cooking chocolate
8 squares of milk chocolate cooking chocolate (I use both dark and milk chocolate so the truffles aren’t too rich)
4/6 squares of white cooking chocolate (to decorate)

Method:
1. Start by taking the Philadelphia out of the fridge. Leave to stand and soften while you smash/crush the whole Oreo biscuits into crumbs.
2. When the Oreo’s are crumbled, put the Philadelphia in a bowl and press/spread it with a spoon. Add the vanilla and mix.
3. Add most of the crumbled Oreo’s to the Philadelphia/vanilla mix (just leave a tiny bit to decorate at the end).
4. Mix the Oreo’s and the  Philadelphia/vanilla mix together and when combined roll the mixture into balls. You can make them whatever size you like but I wouldn’t recommend making them too big because they can be quite filling. Go smaller and you can also take another one if you want.
5. Once all of the mixture rolled out put in the fridge for a 10 minutes to set.
6. Place the dark and milk chocolate in a bowl and melt them over a pan of boiling water.
7. Once melted, take the Oreo/Philadelphia mixture from the fridge and start to cover in chocolate (I use two forks to roll them in the chocolate and when they are covered I place them on a tray and spoon some more chocolate over them to make sure they are really smothered in chocolate!).
7. If there’s a some chocolate left when they have kinda set (there usually is), drizzle it over the top to start your decorating.
8. Melt the white chocolate and drizzle over the top.
9. To finish, sprinkle the remaining Oreo crumbs over the truffles and voila… it’s that easy!

Happy baking and have a great Christmas

p.s. To add a festive touch you could cover the truffles completely in white chocolate to make little snowmen truffles. Add some eyes and a nose with mini M&M’s, sprinkle the remaining Oreo crumbs over the top and you’re good to go.
