4th of July in Cape Cod

4th of July in Cape Cod

Back to reality after spending the 4th of July in Cape Cod. It was my first time there and it was exactly how I imagined. A little like Montauk, chilled out and oh so pretty. My only complaint is that we didn’t have enough time. I’d have loved a few more days to explore Martha’s Vineyard and Nantucket, lie on the beach and work on my summer glow. But New York was calling, so I’m back at it and half way through another week (where is the time going?).

We did have two whole days there though, and we managed to pack quite a lot in. If you follow me on Instagram or Snapchat (username: lcscloset), you probably already know what we got up over the weekend?!…

Day 1 kicked off on Friday with Ciara, Erika and I leaving New York bright and early (on a 5:30am train) en route to New Haven in Connecticut. We decided to get the train to New Haven and rent a car from there to drive to Cape Cod. There’s an airport in New Haven (think Knock airport but even smaller), so we rented a car from there. We wanted to avoid city traffic and break down some of the journey, so this was the perfect solution.

I’d definitely recommend doing this. There is no direct train from NY to Cape Cod and the train is pretty pricey too. The bus would have been torture and it worked out (A LOT) cheaper than renting a car from New York. It was so handy having a car to get around for the weekend too. I was the designated driver. My first time driving in 9 months and it was on the wrong side of the road (was I crazy?). I loved it and it really made me miss the freedom of having a car (even more than when I wrote about what I miss from Ireland).

We arrived in Cape Cod shortly after lunch and went straight to the beach for a few hours to soak up some much needed sun. After the beach it was time get ready for dinner and our first experience of the Cape Cod night life. We ate in a restaurant called Torino right in the centre of Hyannis (Hyannis is famously home to the Kennedy Compound – I was in my element!!). The food was amazing. It was a really nice place for a good meal. Around 10pm the restaurant turned into a night club, I’m talking real life Jersey Shore right here… too funny!

Saturday involved (a not so nice) brunch, cupcakes, taking in some sights, and the 4th of July parade. The parade was weird but funny. It kind of reminded me of a cringy version of St. Patrick Day parades at home. To watch the fireworks we went to a beach near the Kennedy Compound and Hyannis Port Yacht Club. We stayed there for the night and it was such fun. One of the best nights in a long time. Louise even joined us too (she’s spending the week in The Cape with her family – so jealous!).

We had to head back to New York on Sunday, so we were up bright and early to hit Keyes Beach. It’s a gorgeous beach near where we watched the fireworks the night before. Before we knew it, we were back on the road for New York and our weekend of fun in The Cape Cod sun was over. I will be back though, Martha’s Vineyard and Nantucket are waiting for me…

I hope you’re having a great week,
