Fire Island Weekend Trip

fire island weekend trip

If you saw last Thursday’s post (off-the-shoulder top and pleated shorts) you’ll probably know I spent the weekend in Fire Island. I’ve heard so much about Fire Island since I moved here (I can’t believe I’d never heard of it before then!), so I couldn’t wait to experience it for myself… And it didn’t disappoint! It is honestly one of the most chilled out and relaxed places this side of the Atlantic…

There are no cars on the island (except for emergency vehicles). You either walk or bike around the island, so you can imagine just how quiet it is. I went with Ciara and Erika, and we all agreed we had some the best nights sleep in a long time. Two nights without traffic and sirens waking us up was sheer bliss. 🙂

Fire Island itself is a barrier island south of Long Island and it’s super easy to get to. We just hopped on an LIRR train from Penn Station right after work on Friday. We got the train to Bay Shore and the journey usually takes just over an hour. But if you’re like us and you are too busy gossiping, it might take a bit a longer (once you figure out where the hell you are 🙂 )! From Bay Shore we got the Fire Island ferry out to the Saltaire –  the little town we were staying in.

The whole island is made up of little towns, and according to my boss, there’s something for everyone. We visited two other towns while we were there too – Fair Harbor and Kismet. Saltaire is a quieter town, but it was perfect for us because we needed some down time. It is right beside Kismet too and Kismet is a bit more lively, so we headed to one of the bars there after a barbecue on Saturday night (you might have seen some snaps on my Snapchat – lcscloset).

It was such a fab, chilled out weekend and I really didn’t want it to end. As I said in Thursday’s post, it was probably my last weekend away of the summer. Looking back over what we managed to pack in over the last few months (Miami, Governors Ball, Cape Cod, The Hamptons, days at the beach and lots of fun around Manhattan), it wasn’t a bad summer at all. 🙂

Hope you’re having a good week,

Lorna x
