Afternoon Tea At Ashford Castle

Before I went home last month I made a little list of things I really wanted to do while I was there. Top of my list was treating my mother to Afternoon Tea at Ashford Castle.

I grew up taking trips to Ashford with our American relations, making a wish in the fountain and touring the suites (not sweets like my sister and I found out the hard way when we were very young!), but I haven’t really been there over the last few years.

I think being away from home really makes you appreciate all of the amazing things we have right on our doorstep, so I wanted to make sure I took advantage of it while I was back home. I absolutely love Ashford and am so lucky that it’s only a quick drive away from me in Mayo.

Ashford is a 5* hotel and it was just voted the best hotel in the world, so my expectations for Afternoon Tea were high. I can honestly say it was so much better than (my exceptionally high standards) expected. The service was AMAZING and I think that’s a pretty big statement coming from someone who lives in New York, where you pay for your service…

We had Afternoon Tea in The Connaught Room and intended on just having the tea and food (which is €34 per person). When we were there we decided we’d go all out and really treat ourselves with the champagne option (for an extra €15 each). It was definitely worth it… Such a nice treat!

The food!!! There was so much delicious food!! I can’t describe how good it was. I have a weakness for scones and have had my fair share of them over the years, so this is a bold statement… but I think they may have been some of the best scones I’ve ever had…

The weather was also incredible, which always helps with anything you do in Ireland. But when it comes to Ashford I think it’s such an amazing place that it really doesn’t matter what the weather is like…

We were enjoying ourselves so much, that we didn’t even think to get a picture of the two of us together (blogger fail!). I will be home for Christmas this year though (I can’t even describe how excited I am!!) and I’m already planning a trip back to Ashford with my mother and 4 sisters. I think it’ll be such a nice girls day and I can’t wait to see how amazing the castle looks decorated for the festive season!

I hadn’t planned on doing a blog post on this, but we had such a good experience (I really can’t recommend it enough!!) and think it’s an amazing day out, so I thought I share it with you.

I hope you enjoyed it,
