After searching for the longest time, I finally got the camel coat of my dreams (thanks to Erika’s mother!) Believe it or not, this little beauty is a Penneys gem (similar here and here)! Actually my whole look here is from Penneys/Primark. I got the scarf (I never take it off!), boots and sweater when I was home in September and I get so many compliments whenever I wear them. These boots are the comfiest and I’m kinda kicking myself that I didn’t get them in black too.
So the title of this post isn’t referring to my coat! This week has been a pretty big week of changes for me. After over a year, I finally moved to Manhattan. That’s kind of a big deal in itself (for me anyway!) but an even bigger deal is that I started a new job with an amazing company in one of my favourite parts of New York! If you follow me on Snapchat you might have figured out where it is (my username is lcscloset)…
Two weeks ago (after I had been offered my new job) my brother rang me from Australia and asked me a pretty simple question – “What haven’t you achieved in the past year that you wanted to?”
He asked me this because he wanted me to stop being so hard on myself and realise what I’d managed to do in 12 months! This was the first time I stopped to think about everything I have done since I moved to New York. It was only when I really thought about it that I realised I had achieved absolutely everything (and so much more!) than I ever imagined when I moved here over a year ago…
I always say no one ever needs to criticise me because I do an amazing job of doing that all by myself (you’ll know this if you read my key takeaways from Inbound 15). But if moving to New York taught me anything it’s that you have to value yourself and give yourself a break every now and again.
New York is one of the most competitive places in the world, so if you survive here you really do need to give yourself some credit and celebrate every little win. If I’m being honest, surviving in New York is something I’m really proud of! It’s funny because Erika mentioned this earlier this week too, but living in New York is hard (see what I mean in my New York Truths post)! Don’t get me wrong, it’s amazing and the good days definitely outweigh the bad, but when the bad days come (and they will) they hit you like a tonne of bricks!
I’m so lucky that I have an amazing group of supportive friends here – Erika, Ciara, Michaela, Niamh, Lisa D (and Louise and Dearbla eventhough they left us!). These girls are always there when the going gets tough, but more importantly they’re the ones who (along with my family) are pushing me to value myself more and take credit for everything I’ve managed to achieve to date!
I was quite homesick when I got back to New York last month, but now I’m more excited than ever to see what the next few years will bring.

Ah missus your photos are gorge! You know I’m obsessed with that scarf and need it now 🙂 You’re living the dream in NY and while we mightn’t always see the other side or the reality of living in New York, everyone is rooting for you and can’t wait to see what you have in store for us over the next year. Keep up the fab work and congrats on the new job (and now I’m trying to figure out where it is!)
AMEN SISTER! Great post! <3
Aw I love this!!
Go You.. the first year (and probably the second year) of a big move is always an adjustment. You’ll look back on this time and realise how far you’ve come and proud of yourself you are. Like Karen, I’m now trying to figure out where you work!! Well Done! Remember you need the bad days to realise how good the good days are and a good nap can make the world of difference!
You’re Awesome!

Congratulations!
NYC is a dream and feeling like you’ve accomplished all you set out to do is the reality.
You are an inspiration and I long for the day when this happens for me as well, so off to do everything I can to make sure that I succeed!
