More Than Just A Girl With Boohoo

A few weeks ago I was asked to take part in Boohoo’s More Than Just A Girl campaign. This campaign is all about girl power, which I absolutely love, so I was delighted to be asked to take part! As part of the campaign Boohoo asked me to style some pieces and create a video (yes VIDEO!) sharing a little more about me and to talk about what I like to do off camera. I’d never made a video before, so this was definitely different and a challenge, but it was a lot of fun!

Boohoo sent on a list of questions for me to talk through in the video, but I realised I don’t actually talk about what makes me more than just a girl. I was thinking about this on the subway on my way home this evening, and I kept coming back to something I think about all the time. The different aspects of me…

I know that probably sounds a bit funny, but you know when people ask you to tell them what you do or a little about yourself, my first thought is always ‘which part’? I think this is even more prominent in New York. One of the most common questions you’re asked in here is “What do you do?”, which is of course in relation to my job here in NYC. But when I tell someone what I do, what about all the other parts that all add up to make me… well me!

One of my favourite quotes is that ‘everyone is has a story’ and it’s true. When it comes to my story, I don’t think I have the most typical one! First of all there’s the family part of me that’s one of 10 (yep I have 9 siblings!!!). There’s the work side of me where I spend my days analyzing data. There’s the blogger side of me (the side I like to call my alter ego!), where I pose it up around Manhattan. There’s also the academic side of me, the one where I spent 4 years getting my PhD in Fashion Brand Relationships and lecturing in NUIG. Then there’s the fearless side of me, the side that needed change so I packed my bags and moved to New York over a year a half ago. And let’s not forget the Irish side of me…

I could go on and on, but I guess what I am trying to say is that all these different parts come together to make me More Than Just A Girl. People always seem shocked when they find out about some of these different parts of me and that probably has a lot to do with them taking people at face value and forgetting that there could be a really amazing story behind it all (not to say my story is amazing, but you get what I mean).

Anyway, if you fancy checking my first foray into the world of YouTube, I’ve shared the video at the bottom of this post.

Hope you have a great weekend,

[…] I think this is my all time favourite quote just because it’s SO TRUE!! This is only a snippet of the quote (the most important part), because I read the actual quote years ago and have never been able to find (or remember) the whole quote since. But like with the first one, it’s so true. Absolutely everybody has a story that we know nothing about (this kinda ties to what I talked about in my more than just a girl post). […]
