Gucci Padlock Bag | Similar affordable option

After all of my talking and thinking about what to get myself for my birthday (it was going on for months), I haven’t really shown you what I ended up getting. I showed it really quickly on my Snapchat (@lcscloset) and on Instagram, but I haven’t really had a chance to share and explain why I picked the Gucci Padlock over all of the other amazing designer bags on the market. Believe me, this wasn’t a choice I made on a whim so keep reading to see why this was THE ONE!!

I knew I was going to buy myself an investment piece for my birthday for the quite a while, so I had been keeping my options open for anything that caught my eye. I love love LOVE designer handbags but I also love to have something a little bit different. It can be the smallest detail, but if it’s different or unique in some way well then I’m sold. I know finding something different can be hard with bags. The most beautiful bags are firm favourites of all my favourite bloggers, so I knew it was going to take some time to find what I wanted.

So how did I find the Gucci Padlock? It’s not one of the more popular Gucci bags at the moment, and I actually first laid eyes on it last October when I saw the larger size version on Pinterest. It ticked all of the boxes for what I was looking for but I did think it was a little big. When I found the smaller version it was LOVE!!! It took me a few more months to finally make up mind (it’s not a decision I made lightly – trust me!!), but it was one of those situations where I should have gone with my gut in the first place…

So why the Gucci Padlock? Well there was a few reasons to be honest:

1. All Black

I knew I wanted a simple black bag with a gold chain handle (a must!) that I could wear again and again. There are so many different options to choose from on the Gucci site and I actually fell head over heels for this little beauty (look at those details!!!). The practical side of my brain kicked in though and I went with the bag I thought I’d get the most wear out of.

2. Timeless

It’s such a classic design that it will never date, and I love that. This is an investment piece and I didn’t want to buy a trendy bag that would be of fashion in a few months.

3. It’s A Little Different

Gucci is definitely having a moment right now and there is no denying that Alessandro Michele (the brands creative director) is on fire. All of their bags are absolutely stunning but one of the reasons I was drawn to this bag was that it’s not one of the more popular or trendy Gucci Bags. The more popular bags (the Dionysus, Marmont or the Soho Disco bag) are absolutely fab and I’d be happy to own any one of them, but I have never been one to want the latest ‘must have’. When things get popular I actually tend to go off them and I do always love to have something a little different. So for me, the Padlock bag is the perfect mix.

4. Perfect Size

I was debating whether to get the small Gucci Padlock or the larger size for about 2 months. I went to the store and did a side by side comparison and everything. Ultimately, the smaller size won out because it really is the perfect size for me. I don’t tend to bring much with me when I leave my apartment (random fact: I never bring make up with me) and it’s fits everything I need. The girls even bought me a matching cardholder for my birthday so now I have the complete set.

5. Not Heavily Branded

The girl in the shop was trying to get me to buy the bag with the famous Gucci pattern. I ended buying my bag online in the end, but I had to explain to her that I have never been one to wear heavily branded pieces. I don’t know why really, I’ve just never been drawn to them. Of course I would make an exception for a Chanel classic flap or Boy (a gal can dream!). Or even a YSL…

And that’s it, I had a really good idea of what I wanted but even after I found this and digged a little deeper into the details of the bag I still had to think long and hard about it. It’s a lot money to spend on one piece but I absolutely love it and I’m so happy I did it. You may remember my post last year where I talked about buying something special – that’s exactly how I feel about this little beauty. Be prepared to see a lot more of it this year…

Hope you’re having a good week,
