Irish Fashion Top 10 Summer Essentials 3

I was so happy to wake up this morning to see the look I posted yesterday (Pink Shoes) is Look Magazine’s #LOOKofTheDay. What a great way to kick off my Friday. If you haven’t seen yesterday’s post yet, be sure to check it out here.

On to today’s post. Do you like the first pic? It’s one from my travels in Oz, at Whitehaven beach – such an amazingly beautiful place. Anyway, today’s post is all about the items essential to my summer wardrobe. We are (supposed to be) well and truly into summer now (today is actually a beautiful summer’s day here in Ireland – happy face), and many people have yet to head off on holidays, so I am sure some of these essential pieces will come in handy. I decided to do a Top 10 of my summer wardrobe essentials, but I could easily have done my top 15-20. Anywho, in no particular order, here are my top picks…

1. Statement Sunglasses

Irish Fashion Floral and Pink 9

You may have noticed I love my sunnies. I wear sunglasses every single day (and in most of my posts too!). There has even been times when I have had 3 or 4 pairs of sunglasses in my bag, so of course a great pair of shades had to make the list. No matter what time of the year it is, I really believe sunglasses are an essential part of any wardrobe.

The right pair of sunglasses adds an extra level of chicness to a look and can completely transform any outfit. I don’t own any expensive or designer sunglasses but I would definitely buy a pair because they are functional, fashionable and can be worn time and time again. Such a great investment piece. The sunglasses pictured here are my favs at the moment. They go with everything. If I had the cash to splurge, I would love these Prada beauties. Someday…

2. A Mix and Match Bikini

Summer wardrobe essentials

If you’re on the hunt for a bikini, I definitely recommend buying one you can mix and match with other pieces. I have been really lucky in the past and picked up bikini bottoms for next to nothing (like €2) that I mixed and matched with bikinis I already owned. The bikini pictured here is a great option (see the top here and bottoms here) because not only can you wear the set together, you can also wear the pieces separately with all the different colours in the set. Think, this top and black, blue, white, purple or green bottoms and vice versa. The possibilities are endless and you will really get value for your money. You could easily travel with one or two full bikinis, one or two more bottoms and be set for a few weeks on the beach.

3. White Jeans

Irish Fashion Blue Stripes 11

Have you noticed I am a little obsessed with white jeans this summer? White jeans are definitely a sign summer is here and I think their styling possibilities are endless. They’re just practical in the summer in Ireland. They don’t tend to be as heavy as other denim jeans and aren’t as warm in the sun. So not only are they incredibly chic, you will also be sure to stay cool while wearing them too.

I love Topshop jeans. The Jamie and Joni jeans are my favs.

4. Flat Sandals

Irish Fashion Denim and Stripes 4

If I could live in flat sandals I happily would. Unfortunately, the changing seasons and weather have other plans but during the summer months a really great pair of versatile sandals are an must. I’d definitely recommend a tan pair like the ones I am wearing in this pic or neutral ones like these, these and these. You’ll be able to wear them with so many different colours and looks.

5. A Playsuit

Irish Fashion Floral Playsuit 20

I am really not exaggerating when I say I LOVE playsuits (see some I’ve worn before here, here and here). I think they’re perfect for summer because not only are they effortlessly chic, but you can wear them during the day with flats and dress them up with wedges or heels at night. Playsuits are so easy to wear and work on every body type. Most playsuits are kinda flowy too so they are the perfect thing to wear to stay cool on a hot summers day.

See some of favourite playsuits here (LOVE the caped sleeves), here, here, and here

6. Tan Heels

Personally, I just think tan anything is perfect summer footwear. Like I already said, tan goes with absolutely everything. Going for a block or chunky heel instead of a stiletto will save your feel too. They are way more comfy. I have my eye on this pair from New Look.

7. The Perfect Heeled Sandal

I know this is the third pair of shoes on the list but a girls gotta have a dressier shoe for those big summer events and nights out. simple pair of sandals like these River Island ones are definitely needed for dressier summer events, like weddings and special occasions. The neutral gold tone of these sandals also means they will go with absolutely everything. I LOVE these shoes… I wish I could justify buying them but I already have a few pairs of strappy sandals in my wardrobe…

8. A Summer Cover-Up

Irish Fashion Sleeveless Shirt 13

One mistake a lot of people (myself included) make during in summer months is forgetting to bring a little summer cover up when they are out and about. Here in Ireland it can get a little chilly in the evening. In warmer countries air conditioning can it can be pretty cold (or bloody freezing) indoors, so I always try to make sure I have a little cover up at hand. Something like the sleeveless shirt I am wearing here, this one I bought last week or a kimono are the perfect way to cover up when it is a little cooler in summer.

9. Denim Shorts

I don’t think this one needs much of an explanation. Denim shorts are so versatile and a great addition to any summer wardrobe. Personally, I am lusting after this pair.

10. A Crisp White Shirt

Irish Fashion Pink Shoes 20

Last but by no means least, a great crisp white shirt is perfect for summer. I was looking for one for ages and I finally got the one pictured here in Topshop. White shirts look just as good worn with jeans as they do with shorts and skirts. I’d definitely recommend investing in a good quality one you can wear time and time again.

So there you have it, my essential summer wardrobe items. You can see them all together by clicking through the handy widget above. Do you have anything you’d add to the list? Do let me know.

Have a great weekend,
