The 2013 Grammy Awards were held at the Staples Centre in Los Angeles last night and in my opinion, Rihanna, Beyonce, Taylor Swift and Katy Perry all struck gold with their outfits. I was really looking forward to seeing last nights style as the Grammy’s red carpet is traditionally associated with being one where the stars can experiment with their fashion choices, have fun and take a few risks. Although, sometimes the choices are questionable, remember Lady Gaga showing up inside an egg in 2011 or Nikki Minaj showing up dressed in a red nuns outfit last year?
Although the Grammy’s have clamped down on crazy and very revealing outfits with a new dress code, they are still all about experimentation. Some of the stars did manage to get around the dress code but it was all in good taste. Here is my list of the best dressed ladies who all stood out for all the right reasons. I say ladies here because the men really stepped up to the mark in some amazing suits last night. Love it! 🙂
So stunning I had to include two pictures. Rihanna surprised everyone with this beautiful, sheer but extremely classy full length gown by Azzedine Alaia. Personally I think she was the best dressed on the night. It was so feminine, girly and unexpected, but it showed off her perfectly toned body and was perfect with her skin tone and hair colour. The dress has such a romantic feeling about it so maybe she picked it with Valentine’s Day in mind?
I loved Beyonce’s OSMAN by Osman Yousefzada jumpsuit. I was watching E!’s live coverage of the red carpet as she stepped on the red carpet and everyone was so surprised/excited when they realised she was wearing a jumpsuit. I love the fact that this black crepe jumpsuit with white panel detailing is by a lesser known designer, and it is also bang on the monochrome and geometric trends that are everywhere right now. This outfit is exactly the kind of experimentation you would expect at the Grammy’s.
In my opinion, Taylor Swift has consistently been one of the best dressed stars throughout the entire awards season. Last night she pulled it out of the bag once again in this white Marilyn Monroe style gown with silver detailing by J.Mendel. Loved it!
Katy Perry’s 60’s style Gucci dress, which was inspired by Priscella Presley, has divided opinion, but I am definitely a fan. Katy was definitely one of the rule breakers with the serious amount of cleavage she had on display, but this old-Hollywood style mint green figure hugging gown, that had beading around the collar, showed off her ample curves to perfection.
Kelly Rowland was another rule breaker as pushed the boundaries in this black dress with sheer panels by Georges Chakra Couture. She looked AMAZING.
Carrie Underwood went for old school glamour in this beautiful Roberto Cavalli gown. Although this classic black and grey patterned gown was simple, her 381 carat necklace was anything but, and she even told Ryan Seacrest “It’s worth more than me!”
John Legends gf pulled off a number of trends and broke a few of the dress code rules with this Joy Ciocci gown. This is exactly the type of dress that you can get away with at the Grammy’s but is definitely not for something like the Oscars.
Beyonce’s lil sis, who regularly graces the best dressed columns and has won admiration for her bold, singular style, also stood out for the right reasons last night. Staying true to herself, she went with this bold emerald green couture creation by Ralph & Russo. Complete with an eye-catching slit, this crystal-encrusted gown sparkled as she moved and I love the extra pop of colour she added with her heels. Again, this outfit is exactly what the Grammy’s red carpet is all about.
Who was your best dressed on the night? Let me know.
Lorna. 🙂 xx
