Boston & Newport road trip

A long overdue round up of my trip to Boston and Newport in Rhode Island when my sister was here in April. I was very snap happy, so it has taken a while to get through all these images. Life has been more than a little crazy lately too. If you follow me on Snapchat and Instagram (@lcscloset) you’ll be up to speed on all my trips (Philadelphia, Ohio and Montauk), but I’m so excited to finally share this post. I had been to Boston once before for Inbound last September, but I was so busy attending the conference I barely had anytime to explore the city. So I really got to see all that Boston had to offer this time and I loved it. This trip was my first time in Newport and I am beyond obsessed. I need to go back asap!!! Anywho here’s a round up of what we got up to over the 3 days and some of my Boston and Newport recommendations (warning… there’s a lot of pics!!).

Boston Day 1

Day 1 kicked off early with our drive to Boston. We had toyed with the idea of getting the bus but renting a car and being on our own time was way more appealing. It gave us so much freedom to do our thing too which was amazing! And if we got the bus, we wouldn’t have been able to visit Newport, so this worked out for the best for sure…

First stop in Boston was Cambridge for a trip around Harvard (the courtyard and Business School). Cambridge and the university campus are so so beautiful. We loved the streets and the little boutiques too…

We grabbed lunch at Mexican (Border Cafe) really close to Harvard. My housemate had recommended this place and I’m glad we took her advice. They have huge portions (the water glasses were bigger than my head!), tasty food, great service, and it won’t break the bank… In fact it’s super cheap and we couldn’t believe how much food we got for the price. What more could gals (and a guy) ask for? I’d 100% recommend a visit and spending some time in this area if you’re going to Boston…

After checking into our hotel, we went for a few cheeky cocktails in Top of the Hub at the top of The Prudential Center. I had asked you guys for your recommendations on Snapchat (@lcscloset) and this was by far the most recommended spot. I can see why too. After a trip to an Irish bar (of course) and checking out the infamous Cheers Bar (spoiler alert – fun to see and get a snap but it’s nothing major and smells pretty bad), we ended up in Beacon Hill. We wanted to go to The Liberty, but there’s a dress code and we were a little too casual for the occasion. It looks amazing though, so definitely put it on your list (and dress smart) if you’re making the trip…

Boston Day 2

Day 2 was jam packed and full of walking. We kicked the day off with a coffee (of course) at The Thinking Cup, a super popular place that I’d been on my last trip to Boston. The queues for this place were out the door, which is always a good sign. It’s right by Boston Commons, so we checked that out after before heading to Faneuil Hall/Quincy Market. Now this is where I/Google messed up a little. We wanted to do the Historic Walking Tour of the city (because Boston is steeped in history and we love that stuff), but it actually begins in Boston Commons (where we had been) and ends at Faneuil Hall. So we grabbed lunch at the market instead and of course a lil sweet treat…

If you’re going to Boston you have to check out Faneuil Hall/Quincy Market, but try not to get too overwhelmed. There’s a lot to choose from and if you have a sweet tooth, you’ll be in heaven. However, our sweet tooth was not quite satisfied and we just had to try Mike’s Pastry’s in the North End (a short walk from Faneuil Hall/Quincy Market). This place had been recommended the last time I was in Boston, but I didn’t get a chance to go, so I had try it out this time and I can confirm, their cannoli’s are amazing!!!

Of course, no trip to Boston would have been complete with a trip to Primark. I’m going to sound crazy but I can’t even begin to explain all the different emotions I went through in Primark. My sister and her boyfriend were visiting from London, so I was conscious that a trip to Primark was not going to be top of their list. I went from extreme excitement, to being ridiculously overwhelmed and panicked. Someone did say it’s because I don’t know when I’ll be back again and I think it’s so true (although I will be home in 4 WEEKS – Eeeek!)…

I picked up a few nice summer bits and some essentials, so I did pretty good under the pressure! We spent the afternoon exploring Beacon Hill (I need to live here), before setting off for Newport. There’s definitely a lot we didn’t pack in, but I’ll be back again over the summer for sure, so I had to leave a few bits for when I come back… 🙂

Newport

The final stop on our road trip was to Newport in Rhode Island. Although it rained the whole time we were there I am completely obsessed with this place and NEED to go (ask the girls… I never stop talking about it). The sheer gorgeousness of the place and the amazing boutique hotel we stayed in more than made for the rain. We stayed in The Attwater Hotel and I honestly didn’t want to leave. It was amazing – the decor (I have since bought the same mirror), the food, the space… we loved it and I will be back. I had lots of questions about the hotel on Snapchat, so it looks like some of you did too…

What I liked most about Newport is that you can walk from place to place. In the Hamptons and Cape Cod you 100% need a car, so it’s a nice plus that you can park up the car if you fancy. The big thing to do in Newport is visit the ridiculous/famous mansions… They are insane! Like I said, it was raining, so we only drove past them but holy crap, they are HUGE! And I will 1000% be back to check them out and to get some pictures of the town (the rain didn’t let us do much snapping). I’d love to be able to wander around the town too and check out the beaches (which are supposed to be amazing!). I can sense another trip coming up real soon…

Hope you enjoyed the round up,
