Christmas Gift Ideas

christmas gift ideas 2016

Happy Hump day! It’s an unusual Wednesday in America because it’s Thanksgiving tomorrow. That means today is our Friday. We have early release from work today too, so this week is an extra short one.

This week is hands down, my favourite week of the year in America. Obviously the fact it’s a short week is amazing in itself, but Thanksgiving has such a lovely warm feeling. Everyone is happy and in the holiday spirit, Christmas is starting to get into full swing, Thanksgiving Day feels like Christmas Day (just without the presents), and of course it’s followed by the Black Friday sales!

I’m gonna admit, I usually do a lot of damage to my bank account on Black Friday, both buying Christmas presents and treating myself (because why the hell not?). It makes total sense though because I need to buy all that stuff anyway, so I’m saving money… Right?

You might have seen earlier in the week that I have already created my annual Ultimate Christmas Gift Guide for 2016 and my Christmas Shop, but today I wanted to get a little more specific and share some gift ideas and why I think they make the perfect present. Personally, I think the best gifts are the ones someone needs or can really get good use out of, but for some reason they just never buy them. I have 5 to share here, so here goes…

1. An Otter Box Phone Case

We all know that one accident prone person who needs to get a new phone 10 times a year, but still refuses to get a cover. Save them a lot of heartache this year and treat them to an Otter Box case. These cases are the best and they are also really stylish.

I think one of the reasons people refuse to invest in a good phone case is that they don’t like how it looks. They’ll buy cheap cases that look good, but don’t really offer real protection, because they look really pretty. Believe it or not, this is actually something I uncovered in my Ph.D. a few years ago. People tend to view their phone as a fashion accessory and because it’s highly visible, they saw it as being able to communicate something about them to other people without even talking to them. This is why it’s so important that it looks good. It’s really fascinating to be honest, to see how adding something to your phone can make it part of fashion.

Anywho, enough from my former academic life. Otter Box cases are great gift for everyone. The one pictured here is from the Statements Series. I also love this case because I can keep my subway card in it too. I always have my phone in my hand, so this is super handy for my daily commute. For people who don’t like having a cover on their phone, this clear case is absolutely perfect.

You can get OtterBox cases  from OtterBox.ie and Vodafone Ireland also have them instore.

2. A Kapten & Son Watch

I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again… You can never have too many watches and I think they make such a fab present. My newest one is this gorgeous mesh strap watch with a black face from Kapten & Son. I am totally obsessed and haven’t taken it off since I got it.

If you follow me on Snapchat, you may have seen the side by side comparison I did with this watch and my Abbott Lyon one. It’s amazing how much more expensive this my Kapten & Son one looks beside my Abbott Lyon one. The quality is also amazing and the mesh strap is quite fine, so it gives a beautiful finish.

What I love about these watches too is that the straps are interchangable, so you can buy another strap or 2 (I got this black leather one and this striped one) and you have 2 or 3 watches/presents in one.

3. Orogold Skincare Products

I love getting skincare and beauty products as gifts because I am not the most adventurous when it comes to beauty stuff. I don’t know what it is. I’ve always been ready and willing to experiment with clothes, but when it comes to beauty products I feel like I don’t know what I’m doing as much, so it’s like there’s a higher level of risk involved. This means I end up being very loyal to what I know and like. So when I get products as a gift, it’s the perfect excuse to break out of my comfort zone.

This year in fairness, I have being making a conscious effort to get better with my skincare and looking after my skin. I noticed I was getting a few lines around my eyes and something needed to be done about it. This is how I discovered Orogold (remember my post from earlier this year?). I’ve been using their eye creams for over 6 months and their stuff is AMAZING! The eye creams are a little more expensive and if your budget allows, they are fab. If your budget doesn’t quite stretch that far, I also have some products from their White Gold Collection that I love too. All of their products are just so good!

4. An Olympus Pen

I treated myself to an Olympus Pen E-PL7 at the end of the summer after months and months of debating whether or not I should buy it. Now I’m wondering why I didn’t bite the bullet and do it earlier. To be totally honest I didn’t invest in it earlier because I felt guilty about spending that much money on something for me when I live in one of the most expensive cities in the world and have a lot of other expenses.

I’m pretty sure I’m not the only person who feels guilty when it comes to making big purchases for themselves and this is why I think they make the perfect present. I chose the Olympus Pen after weeks of research and overall this one came out on top. I can honestly say, it’s so easy to use and even if you do struggle to get to grips with it, there are so many blog posts from other bloggers with amazing tips for how to get the best from it.

5. Biossance Face Care

Finally, some more skincare products. Like I said above, I’m not the most adventurous when it comes to skincare but when I love something, I really do love it and will recommend it to anyone. These Biossance products are another perfect example. I use these products every single day and have noticed such a difference in the condition of my skin since I started using them around them this time last year.

I ran out of them about 2 months ago and have only just got around to replacing them. My skin wasn’t the same when I stopped using these daily, so I’m excited to have them back in my life. I use The Purifier cleansing oil to gently take off my make up every night and then apply the tiniest drop of The Nourisher rose face oil to moisturise. Believe me when I say, a little goes a long way with these products, so you really get your money’s worth…

Happy shopping guys. Have you started you Christmas shopping yet?
